This Privacy Policy describes how the Tube2Book Chrome Extension ("we", "us", or "the Extension") handles your data. We built this extension with a privacy-first approach: we do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to any external servers owned by us.

1. Information We Access

In order for Tube2Book to function, it requires access to specific information strictly on your local device:

YouTube Transcripts: The extension reads the public transcript and metadata (like title and channel name) of the YouTube video currently active in your browser. This data is extracted solely to generate prompts.
Local Settings: We store your configuration preferences (e.g., target word counts, selected AI model, formatting styles) locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. This data never leaves your computer.

2. Information Sharing & Third Parties

Tube2Book acts as a bridge between YouTube and your chosen AI provider. The extension will automatically transmit the extracted YouTube transcript directly to the third-party AI service you select (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Google Gemini, or DeepSeek) via your web browser.

Please note:

We do not intercept, view, or log the data passed between YouTube and your AI provider.
Your interactions with those AI models are governed entirely by their respective Privacy Policies (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google).

3. Use of Permissions

Tube2Book requests the following permissions to operate:

Host Permissions & activeTab: To read transcripts from YouTube and interact with the chat input fields on AI platforms.
Storage: To save your preferences locally.
Scripting & Tabs: To open new tabs for AI platforms and inject the generated prompt automatically into the text area.
Clipboard: To allow you to manually copy prompts or formatted manuscripts.

4. Data Retention

We do not retain any of your data. The text extracted from YouTube and the text generated by the AI exist only temporarily in your browser's memory and local storage while the extension is active.

5. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
